Can'tCan

Contributed by dvtpdw on Monday, 20th January 2014 @ 05:11:51 PM in AEST
Topic: EmotionalPoetry

Can't warm a stone cold heart
Can't teach selfish souls to share
Can't force dead minds to start
Can't make a child's life fair

Can argue a debate too far
Can scream out to deaf ears
Can wail against who they are
Can try to calm a child's fears

Can't explain why parents leave
Can't ignore the lack of concern
Can't ask a crying child to believe
Can't make disappearing parents return

Can hold a child in loving arms
Can give back childhood dreams
Can open worlds of delightful charms
Can promise to protect by any means

Can't describe the disgust one feels
Can't override the urge to destroy
Can't quiet a mind's spinning reels
Can't stop wishing for revenge's toy

Can build a universe of hope and joy
Can close the door and toss the key
Can thank God for this precious boy
Can walk toward the wonders yet to be

Thank you for this lovely sing songy reminder that there are always choices, antidotes, options, something we can do.
You have defied denial, here, and left your reader with hope.
Last stanza is priceless.
