CASINO

Valet park;
Neon dark!

Doors swing wide!
Come inside!

Welcome in!
Let’s begin…

Slot machine!
Gambler’s dream!

Money in;
Watch them spin!

Round and round;
Bells and sounds.

Drinks are free?
Happy me!

Watch the lights;
Whirling bright!

Where it catches;
Nothing matches!

Fill the seats; bus us in!
Give us coupons: one free spin!

Pull the handles, try your luck;
Everybody's hopes are up!

Lots of players; whatta sight!
Wonder if it's day or night!?

Can’t see clocks; Can’t see doors;
(Sunset’s easy to ignore)!

We’ve all agreed that though we pay----
if we get nothing: that’s “OK”!

(Try that elsewhere with my money;
And you’d be in the pokey honey!)

Luck came when I learned for good;
That gambling’s not my livelihood!

The longer I put money in;
The more the danged Casino wins!

(I may win; but it's a fact;
I'll stay there til I give it BACK!)

There’s just one way to stack the deck--
Stay home next year and send a check!

Well written, and a lesson for all who venture there. Doesn't take much working out why they give you free drinks.

This is a great poem I really enjoyed reading it, I got so many different ideas from your casino theme, I am guessing that you were writing about an actual casino ?, but i couldn't help but interpret it like this.
We are all in the casino of life being dazzled by bright lights loud sounds, we blindly attempt to gain fulfilment from physical pleasures and material wealth, we constantly seek instant gratification in all things of baser value, we experience a sudden high and yet it has no sustenance, like a sugar rush, it doesn't last forever and is bad for us in the long run,, what goes up must come down-- we all get addicted and find it hard to let go of the dream,
who really exits as a winner?

anyway I found your poem thought provoking and inspiring,x

I have only gambled in a casino a few times, and realized pretty quickly that the swiftest way for me to advance is to use nickles. Sure, I never won big, but I came out around $50 ahead each time.

Anyway, good poem. Maintains its pace effectively, and the rhymes aren't as contrived.

I really enjoyed your write. You take the reader on quite the adventure and your imagery paints such an enticing picture. I felt as I was gambling right beside you. Great, great write, P

YEP!!!

This sums up the entire casino/gambling experience quite nicely. It is a little scary how exhilarating this was to read. I mean, it took me right into the casino and plunked me down at the blackjack table (where I won, of course!) Unfortunately, I chose to 'let it ride', and lost my paycheque and the shirt off my back.

Damn you casino! I'll get you next time, my pretty!!

Thanks for posting. This gave me a smile.

OH, I like this. It should be listed under humor but I am glad I found it anyway. Rhyming poetry is always worth the read. Thanks.
