Do you know me?

Do you know me?
I mean do you really know me?
Not my name, age or what sports I play.
Do you know me on the inside.
Do you know that I fear disappointment?
Do you know that I fear beauty?
Do you know that I fear power and leadership?
Do you know that I am afraid?
Sometimes I think nobody really knows me.
Most think I am tough.
I am not.
Some are afraid of me.
Do you know that I am sad when others fear me.
To you it may be a joke, but not to me.
Some think I am angry.
I am not, I just don't know what to say.
Do you think I don't know your parents disapproval.
The glances I get at church.
Did you think I hadn't heard your comment.
You are wrong, I hear, see and feel.
I don't blame you,
I just don't know what to do.
So when what you see is a blank face,
No smile, no laughter.
It is not that I am angry, I am not tough.
I will not hurt you, I am not someone to avoid.
I am sad, I am lonely
And I don't know how to change.

This is so lovely and sincere. Maybe it will help us not to judge the quiet people in our lives to harshly.
If that is what you intended, you will aurely succeed with this beautiful and sad little confession. Well done.

I can really relate to this. I know that it's really hard not to have anyone really know you, really understand you, but it'll get better. They'll find out who you really are, and realize they have been fearing something wonderful. You are not the one that needs to change, it is society and the people around you, who fear you, who need to change. |
