Alone in a crowd

Alone in a crowd.

It's not that I'm invisible,
It's not that I lack company.
I am successful,
I seem to have it easy.

I don't lack money,
I wear the same clothes as everyone else,
I can make jokes,
I get good grades.

But inside, deep inside...
There is something missing.
My laugh isn't real,
It's just a cover I put on.

When I walk down the hall,
I am lonely.
Lonely for friendship I have not found.
It's not your fault It's mine.

I don't know what to do.
But I know I feel empty.
Loneliness is like a hole in your heart.
Loneliness is the saddest of all.

I don't cry about it.
It is a fact, and life goes on.
But sometimes, it hits me, it hurts.
Sometimes I am alone in a crowd.

Yeah, been there, done that. Every once in a while one goes in alone and comes out differently. But most of the time, we are all essentially alone whether we are with someone or not. It's awkward. Bet you are an introvert too, like me. (I get more used to it as I get older.)
Blessings and Merry Christmas, S.

Sometimes we are comfortable embraced by the wall we've built. there isn't any rejection to fear. there is no-one to keep pace with. One day you will embrace that world that surrounds you just outside the Windows you are looking through.

Honesty in poetry cannot fail to connect. This is good writing because I am sitting here hearing what you are saying then rereading the poem putting myself into it and finding the differences and similarities interesting.I wear the same clothes until they wear out! This made me smile and at the same time intrigues me about the whole subject of self expression and the factors that dictate.Often when we get to,"I don't know what to do,"this is the turning of the tide with the impetus of exactly what we know we should do.
