My fleeting heart is poisoned
The infection yet to spread
I can feel it deep inside me
Seeping toxins to my head
My pulse has lost its rhythm
As your words create new beats
Some of pain and some of passion
To cool the weary summer heat
You’ve brought me here for nothing
I’m just a toy; it’s all a game
My heart still bloodied badly
From a vicious love roulette
These melodies I write you
You know nothing but the words
You’ll never hear the blissful song
Nor come to understand the hurt
I can reach every peak in sight
I can topple mountain tops
But this never-ending pain
I can’t seem to make it stop
When you came into my life
I was lonely; you were there
Time has torn us both apart
But still, I know you care
The water drowns the flame
But you see, I’m airy like a child
And though earth is your support
I’m the one that drives you wild
So even when it’s you and her
I’ve no doubt I cross your mind
Like the poison in my own still heart
I’m creeping up inside
Still, while I’ve nothing left
I find ways to bide my time
Face the fact that it’s all over
But I’ll wait my whole damn life
If nothing else, you’ll always be
The only one I’ll ever need
So when the world has worn you thin
When the winds of fortune blow you out
I’ll be waiting in this fortress
Of inadequate self-doubt
My path is paved with hues of blue
Until this road leads me to you
And in the darkness of the night
I’ll let this poison reign inside
Until I know I’ve reached the end
Where hopefully, I’ll have my friend
And my fleeting heart will yearn
Even if the flame has ceased to burn

This is beautiful...I can relate to what your saying. Love is undoubtedly like a poison and it takes over almost like a disease. I really like this writting and I will be looking forward to reading more from you.
Warmest wishes,
Nika

Hello,
The ideals of your poem are universal, love lost and the desire for what has been. I particularly enjoyed this stanza:
So when the world has worn you thin
When the winds of fortune blow you out
I’ll be waiting in this fortress
Of inadequate self-doubt
The desire to wait even though you know it will never be, and the doubt that comes with it.
