The Modern Eye

It's the fast food culture
of instant gratification
stale fragrance, museless
scribble, imitation apple
It's the pound signs whirring.
Bleaching into the pallid visions
of the straw stuffed herd
It's the scraps of mental refuse
blown by throwaway speech
down neon defecated high-streets
Even teased off the back of spoons
vanity thirsts for its own reflection
a youth lost in hairspray and wardrobes
It's the weekday public house
of domestic escape artists
wearing their hearts on their arse
spunking time
It's Brand baited children
unzipping their mothers purses
with their eyes alone
and Fathers watching on with
widescreen eyes in high definition
Love a hearts molestered currency
Love, butchered, molestered. Gas-
ping between the legs of a
Harlots current account.
Love, abandoned on white lying alters
when hearts leaped like church bells
The modern hedonists
cut their grapes with chalked razors
bleeding the juice into the wired
eyes of their disciples.
The mosaics of Illiad and Odyssey
long bludgeoned into shards
scattered around unageing
monuments and etherised patients,
quiver and fleet light
trembling for the muse to burst
beyond the paralysis and disconnect
that padlocks our porches
and smears our panes.
The airbrushed fantasy
of pulseless fame
is gunk
gunk that accretes in
the modern eye
and leaves all of value
on the periphery of vision.
O the youth sucked stars
caught beneath the landslide
of collapsing pedastools, even
cased in death their epitaphs
are as delible as chalk.
The modern eye inherits
a diluted world.
