not a shell on the beach,
not a fish in the sea
nor a bird in the sky,
courtesy, of you and I…
no flowers open to the sun,
no beasts to howl at Mother Moon
no barrier to Sol’s great ire;
we brought about the end too soon
some species we proved to be,
rapacious in our quest to Be
we lost our sensibilities;
don’t give guns to chimpanzees…
not a chance to bring it back,
what a waste of everything
a hubristic tragedy,
courtesy, of you and me.

This is haunting and beautiful, even within the anguish. Some great lines in this one, Spike. You really tell a story of a love forlorn. Everything from the oblique tone you set in the beginning-
Not a shell on the beach,
Not a fish in the sea...
To:
No flowers open to the sun
(Soul-destroying, that line)
Or even this:
Don't give guns to chimpanzees...
A simplistic, yet bullet-to-the-heart direct approach to a feeling everyone can relate to so well.
Excellent.

Hi Spike,
Surely not! Surely we would not career
towards such a Post-apocalypse State
without remembering ''Planet of the Apes?''
A nice little gem, reminding us of what could
happen if we take our eye off the ball.

This brought back a memory of Robert Oppenheimer's famous words
"I am become death, the destroyer of worlds"
and I think ultimately man will destroy himself and everything around him.
A chilling reminder of what is yet to be.
