''Oh woe is we'' so the big 6 plea,
''cos that ECO tax is crippling.
Too high'' they plead, ''so the plebs must bleed
though our profit level's tripling.''
Our revered PM moves to comfort them,
by a stroke of pen he'll bin it.
In their snug boardrooms when the pay-out looms
they will make damn sure he's in it.
No welcome compromise, no relief from sacrifice,
no governmental war on the squeeze.
The Brotherhood's composed with the mandate its imposed
that we pay our share of therms - or freeze!
And the tunnel will wend, it will have no end,
nor allow any flicker of hope.
It's anarchic rule from the corporate school,
with 'choice' hanging lifeless from their rope!

Your title to the poem sums it all up. The government is bought off so they're useless. Sounds like it's somewhat the same over there as it is here. I only use the word somewhat because when it comes to the utility companies, we don't even have a choice. My guess is that at least you may may have a choice of who has better customer service. We don't even have that choice.

So often these days Capitalism is code word for Cartel. We the people, who are we the people? I think more and more we have become "The Wee people" in their eyes. We are The ones who don't count! The business round table blokes who own don't really like discussing common sense energy, or economic policy, with the "Wee People" majority, and instead only create ruthless glut and unending war. I'm not cynical, but it's tough to get a word in edgewise with our own elected leaders these days. Nice truthfulness here! Sadly as you hint, there's no need for hyperbole or exaggeration - just the facts say it all!
Peace! |

I usually don't comment on political poetry, but
I must say here, that you would be great at
rallying a coup to change the world! (I'd follow
you! )
I hear ya. I feel ya. Excellent writing, my friend.
I SO love your work!
