This Sunset We Share

Contributed by Damian on Wednesday, 16th October 2013 @ 04:34:20 AM in AEST
Topic: DreamsandWishes

The burning hits the slope,
And slows as if in vain,
The rays once yellow, now glimmer orange
Releasing the days pain
And the man, he sits on a hill of dirt
Watchful eye on nature
And thinks of all the places he could be
In which he could lay eye on this beautiful scene
He may be poor, bills to pay
No job to turn, and a wife that ran away
Whilst on the other side,
A man may stand, tall with pride
The world at his feet, money gleaming in his eye
Do not both these men see the same sunset,
As you and I?

So what makes us different as a human being,
What's brought us to this moment
In two unique, yet similar points of seeing?
When did we forget we share this world?
That we have the same surroundings,
And that each bud that naturally unfurls,
We share in existence

The alcoholic on the corner
Shaking, spirit high with spirits
Lays one blurred eye on the rays that now enter his vision
Wishful thinking enters his broken mind,
A mind filled with a mission
Soon taken when the liquid,
Destroys his mind without permission

We share this world,
Yet we create borders in our brain,
To push our own self forward
Powered by someone else's pain

The murderer looks upward,
Blood dripping from his hand
The sunset blinds his moral eye,
There's no time for him to stand
Times ticking, hearts beating
But the sun still comes forth
For it's forewarned earthly meeting

Today the sun sets,
Tomorrow, perhaps the same
As the sharp rays of orange bathe the world,
Each human does raise their face,
There is no rush, no race
Mother Nature creates the pace
Each set of eyes vary so;
in colour and nerve,
Yet they see the same picture,
Each may have their own twisted life
Lost wife, or a bloody knife
Yet this image stays the same;

We see the same thing,
Yet we fight in vain,
We hold our loved ones close,
While others loved ones are slain
Because you cannot swallow your pride?
Because some of our race believe,
They are better,
As behind money they hide?
Open your eyes,
Set them on the same scene
And let your mind release the lies;
We are equal as part of the human race,
After all,
do we not all end up in the exact same place?
When we both lay in the ground my friend,
You tell me what brings difference to men.

Wow, I don't usually like tall poems but I love this one. It's very well written and has a very important message.
