Chains of mental repression
Drag me back
To the voices of yesterday
Where whispers are no longer feathers but Stones to be added to my
Shoulders,in the shape of burden and furrows to be added to my brow.
Anxiety tills the land of the future as I’m trying to plough in lines of
Perfection, filling each category of life with preconceived ideas of
Happiness, and all the while I have not stopped to smell the scent of a
Winston Churchill Rose, nor listened to life’s breath as it sways through
Years of history, nor felt the sun bathe me in a radiance of being, nor opened
My eyes to my exact location,
The here and now.
Freedom in my next minute.
Awareness in my next footstep.
Aliveness in my next breath, have I forgotten my own breath?
Shadows of the past dissolve as I close my eyes to the future and hold my thoughts
To the present, for it's not the world that dictates me but in which tense I chose
To remain.

Although I often fail, I try to live in the now. That's the thought came came across my mind after I read this finely crafted piece.
Funny though, I could not find a photo of a Winston Churchill Rose but in my search I found a forum from 2005 where Deidre also could not find a photo of one. Hmmmmm...interesting. |

I thought this poem was absolutely beautiful. Freedom and living in the present are exactly what I try to embody. I find that it is the small things that bring me joy. The smell of a rose... or the way the dew catches the sunlight on the grass... and that is what reading this poem reminded me of. |

I don't think I've ever read one of your poems that has failed to move me in some way.
Yet again, you have achieved that with this wonderful piece.
Finely crafted , another work of art.

Hi Anna,
An old saying ........ ''Never look back or the
future will pass you by!'
But if you must then wax lyrical - which is
exactly what you have done here.
Great to see that you haven't lost your
touch, during my absence.

I like your writing style a lot, you seem to captivate the essential in the words you use. Very well written, this poem is inspiring for me. |

penned so beautifully, gently the words float across
the page, what is happening right now- the sun is
streaming through the vines over my window and i take
a deep sigh... thank you for a true moment in the
present,
hugs n' love nessa |
