Island

Contributed by Sherlock on Thursday, 29th August 2013 @ 10:19:38 AM in AEST
Topic: oops

The wind ruffles my hair
and cools my hot forehead.
I wander like an island afloat,
isolated and alone.
All ships that sail in my waters
sink.
All people cry my presence
as a warning.
What has caused me to
be so hated?
What has caused me to
be so unloved?
What have I ever done
to them?

A rose is left upon
my shores,
I am left to wonder at
this act,
an act of love.
This feeling that is
foreign and unknown to me.
I am confused and
feel ever more abandoned.
What has tempted them,
what has pushed them,
what have they done this for?

I lay awake
awaiting the culprit,
I know he will show his face,
but when?
If only there were a sign.
I turn at a noise,
my heart beats inside
my chest
I have waited so long now,
will he come now?

The clock ticks and tocks
continuously
telling me to prepare,
my time has come and
soon all will end.
If only I had seen his face,
If only I had heard his voice
If only he where here.
but no,
he will not come
and I will be left
alone.

An island in the deep,
forsaken and lost,
isolated and alone,
unloved,
It only needs comfort
It only needs a warm hand
but it has neither and never will
for it is an island in the deep.

I can relate to this poem. I too struggle with loneliness but it is a different kind than this the longing for love. In your poem it seems that you think this is impossible to find true love, yet in my opinion, "You are not an island" , you are a person. I have to say that to myself almost everyday and that is why I was drawn to the words of your poem.

Thank you for a thought provoking poem.

Wow, very deep and interesting. Additionally, it is well written.

I wasn't sure who "he" was. Was this God perhaps or the yearn of your dreams?

We all feel this way some time or another, however let me assure you no one, Man or Woman is an island. There will always be a ship that comes to port. Be strong the harbour master will notify you as to when your ship will dock.

Greetings
Rus
