Mother Nature's Heartbeat

As the fragile, dusky streak between not-yet-night and after-light is blurred into oblivion,
The air is moistened with the sigh of Day's labored breath.
The steady hum of Mother Nature's heartbeat,
Teases sleep into an already-weary vessel.
Leaden eyelids, pulled earthward,
Flutter in disobedience, flouting inevitability.
But, as time's unwavering precepts
Demand conformity,
Another course is plotted to a far-off land.
