Our last act will be of defiance
Fighting Death with every aching breath
As she tries to stop our diaphragms
Close our arteries
"Did I live?
Is this the way it goes?
I always thought it would've happened sooner
Much sooner"
I suppose we all have danced with Death before
But now she wants to take us home
Too drunk off of morphine
And the taxis don't drive through this part of town
But she looks so beautiful
Still we refuse
Crying, refusing to say goodbye
Refusing to let go
Of all the people and memories in this smokey little bar
She has glazed-over eyes and a soft voice
We don't know where she will take us
That's the greatest fear
"I'll tell you once we get there."
We barely hear above the monitor's buzzing flatline
And that is all, so we stubbornly reply
"Hopefully it's more scenic than this bed."

This was haunting in a way, sad with a measure of feist and a little dark humor. I really enjoyed this, and I imagine this might be someone I know when they are on their deathbed.
I salute you. Sad, but wonderful. |

Yes I agree it is haunting, but good. The reader can draw different conclusions, I like.
