Life Of Vinnie

Contributed by Deborah on Friday, 16th May 2003 @ 03:05:00 AM in AEST
Topic: SadPoetry

The second- born lived, first born dead,
tragedy hovered over poor man's head.
Nowhere to turn, broken child alone,
with cold, uncaring mother.

Given same name as one before,
at one year precisely, to even the score.
It should not have been, but he paid the price,
and died young with shattered heart.

Never finding his yearned- for fame,
not even a child to continue his name.
Little- known joy would soon die,
left in unmarked grave.

The wonderful gifts he left behind,
are stunning to the best of mind.
Scattered throughout all the world,
never returning home.

Died with no family, alone in strange place,
blackness covering tear stained face.
How many of us really know,
the tragic tale of Vincent Van Gogh?

Do you know - I thought I recognised this. Did you also know that at one place that he stayed, his ladylady used one ofhis paintings to block up a hole in her chicken coop. I bet she would be kicking herself is she knew!!

Great poem!!

Wow this is amazing. I knew he had, had a bad life, but I didn't realise it was like that. A great write, truly great.

Also a song that I love about him is Vincent. Clay Aiken sung it on american idol :D

This is a fantastic write! I did know about him, and can't look at any of his paintings now without wondering what it was he was feeling at the time!.
Isn't it tragic that he couldn't have been recognized in his own time?
I love his paintings, and I loved your poem...how kind of you to leave a nice memory for all of us about a wonderful aritst!
I gave you a great big 5!
Wonderful
