Your words are destructive
They are like a hammer that smashes my porcelain skin
No matter how much I like to pretend they don’t hurt they do
You use them to break me and unfortunately I let you
Each syllable you speak breaks off another piece of me
You have left me shattered on the floor
I pick up the pieces of myself once again and try and put them back together
I may look the same on the outside after but I am weaker
You have left me more vulnerable to attack
I wait in fear and anticipation
For each time I get knocked down I break into smaller pieces
I fear the day the pieces become so small they can no longer be put back together
The day I’m broken beyond repair.
Until then I project a false image of strength to the world
I use it as a shield to try and put off this day
I hope it will stop people from trying to smash me to pieces
It doesn’t.
So I wait here and pray, scared of that day, but nothing will stop it from coming.
