Boardwalk

Go back to jail and don’t collect;
That’s the way we self-correct.
Surely you have weighed aghast
Forfeiting all that you’ve amassed!

It’s backwards somehow to look forward to endings:
I wonder how much of our life was pretending?
Pack up the leftovers; dine on our fears;
Starting all over (and looking our years!).

Time to be frivolous, envied, mistrusted;
Owning ourselves and financially busted.

Cloistered by girlfriends, bless every one,
Donating brothers and roomates, and sons,
To flatter and escort while we gad about,
Charming and witty and so full of doubt!

The hero she hopes for is only in books,
And as girlfriends get married; she only looks.

Seems all her white knights are nine-tenths shoe polish;
Easy to captivate, charm, and demolish.

The longer we search; the less left for choosing;
(and proud indecision can morph into losing).

Waking and working and doing the dishes,
Alone in the dark with a heart full of wishes,

Older and colder, grown tired of the pace;
She invites the grey knight to move into her space.

And though it's not fireworks; she'll keep him til death;
She's traded Park Place for the sound of his breath.

OMG you know me. I love it.
People must have been off the net to ignore this one.
So true, so true. The last few lines summed it all up for me....

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
