When cloud filled skies opaque the sun
And darkness cloaks the brightest days,
When backdrops, painted by despair
Consist of only blacks and grays,
When decency seems hard to see
And chaos and confusion reign,
It’s easiest to let it be
And wallow in the joy of pain.
“It’s not my fault; it’s not my job,”
The songs are sung unendingly,
Turning former battle cries
To chants of mediocrity.
The once proud standard of the race
Of humans on the space-ship earth,
Its banner shredded in disgrace,
Lies torn and trampled in the dirt.
Into this poisoned atmosphere,
A being, far more thought than thing
Swirls crystal healing from a well,
That’s fed by an eternal spring.
It salves the lesions of despair
And levels out the glassy slope,
So wounded mortals can repair
Their pride and faith in its name . . . Hope.

I really love this!
The imagery is brilliant and word play is awesome.
It flows really nicely, nothing needs to be added or taken away.
As for the content itself, I can really relate.
Although I'm more cynical than anything else.
Really well done :) |
