Falling for the first time,
Never crossed my mind,
Until I looked your way,
That afternoon,
On my birthday.
It had been seven hours,
And two months,
Since I had given up,
Nothing seemed to amount to much,
Until I learned addition,
In your truck:
One plus one lonely heart,
equils two everytime,
Especially when the background noise,
Is a "country boy can survive".
Having your attention,
Was always my goal,
And it didn't matter which girl you were with that week,
I insisted you put me first,
Because I was more than enough,
When it came to you being loved,
Friendship is what they claimed it was,
But for me it was always more than that,
One smile from a baggy-pants boy,
In a camo cap,
And I knew right then my heart was gone,
Because I had never been into a hank j.r song,
Until that moment you sang along,
I'll go back to that night,
Forever from now on

| i LIKE this poem. the ending was awesome. to me illustrates the tenuous, almost gossamer, presence that lingering memories have...if we're lucky, they are ones like the poem above. a true Flutter of a Moment. thanks. *btw* if you read just ONE of my poems, make it 'would you'...it's my only 'romantic' poem, written just a month or so ago. lemme know what you think. thanks.
