Perpetuating Crimes

Topic: EmotionalPoetry

I had a vision of clarity watching you from afar
It stung like a million bees released from a jar
It shocked me as a bolt of lightning would
It grabbed my heart as only reality could

It's odd how you can float through life
Think you know everything about its strife
Thinking you've see all there is and more
Truthfully, you've barely scratched that sore

We've been through so much, both you and I
We've laughed, dreamed, screamed and cried
I thought we were on the same life course
But this new truth leaves only sad remorse

I grew up in a home filled with horrid despair
You grew up in a home filled with loving care
How did you become this selfish uncaring shrew
Treating your child with this lack of love's virture

You've walked away from him so many times
Reappearing long enough to perpetuate your crimes
Each time, his heart of love you bash to pieces
His smile fades as your interest in him ceases

Some fault lies with me as I shamefully own up
I let you leave, return, leave as his life you disrupt
My wish for him is he only knows a mother's hug
Your wish is for your needs to be the only field dug

He's now a teenager with the open eyes of youth
Your actions tear his soul as he discovers the truth
His tears fall like rivers as his heart shatters again
His one question: will she ever love me, please when

I've watch him crumble and cry for the last time
You're done perpetuating your destructive crime
He and I sat down to discuss life from here
We agree that it's one of love with no fear

You've played your last game at his heart's expense
No longer will you destroy with your nonsense
We'll sail to tomorrow on the winds of yesterday
Smiling in anticipation of adventures along the way
