Fifteen Saints

Fifteen Saints
______________

ragged angels growl prayers to warden and Lord
who'd promised them flesh and a soul as reward
Lord only knows why Lucifer roared
'I'll take that flesh!' but the Soul, he ignored

these memories of heaven, like dreams in the womb
haunted by angels who envy my tomb
shamed by my halo-a bleeding-wing Ruin
filled with desire to taste of my Doom

Well...

Saint Always said God's will is Do as we've Done.
Saint Patience swore God told her 'Tuck tail and Run'
Saint Never can't speak, God took away his tongue.
Saint Forever can't wait to watch it all become Undone.
Saint Chief Two-Steps-Forward said 'Try chasing the sun'
Saint Seargent Never Look Back reports God's on the run.
Saint Benedict just laughs and grins up to his gums
as Saint Nothing goes nowhere to do nothing with no one.
Saint Daylight sells Hope and Faith and Guns.
Saint Maybe appears to be damned but not done
Saint Yesterday thinks Doom means the Angels have won
but Saint Average Joe says Destiny's the One!
Saint Lightning spoke once. His words struck everyone.
He said 'Jesus builds popscicle crosses for fun.'
Saint Someday's Suicide means Doom has begun,
so gather 'round, Angels...'how those wingless souls Run!'
That leaves only one saint...Saint Faithless The Numb.
He says God is a lie and has been since day One.
He hopes so, anyway, or God's Damned Doom is done,
and then even the Saints will be fed into the Sun.

This is, as somebody might say, What I'm talkin bout. Because it's hard to say the way this poem just I does.
I like it a lot. A candid chowder as they say. Angel's are saviors in the hours of dark, or quiet people who do good things I might never have fully appreciated enough for what they quietly did. I remember the Saint Anthony prayer, my mother told me once to read.
Thank you!

Peace!
