Penthera Leo

The voice of South Africa!

Cried out from the belly of oppression and was

Answered with the roar of a young lion marking his territory, sharpening

His claws on political endeavour, testosterone pumping through his veins

As he fed on an anger, power, and he ran with rebellion and fought with

Disaffection, till leaders of the pride bound him with their fear, caged him

With their ignorance, tried to break him.

Yet the voice of freedom and equality continued to roar through years of

Hopelessness years of suffering, years of survival, and much more years of

Honing, of shaping, of strengthening of Spirit, of wilderness, of preparation

Of waiting for the time, of his time, to lead the pride.

Of learning to lie down with the lamb

From the confines emerged Penthera Leo, Wise, bold and ready for his

Time, for his pride, a true leader with eyes of Love, Strength, and the

Heavens smiled with his smile as he brought the warmth of dignity, of Unity.

His eyes so bright, not of this world as they feel the call of Elijah’s

Chariot waiting to take him home, his work is done, and the tears of the world

As rose petals line the streets for his journey home,

The World echos with,

The Mighty Roar of Mandela!

Hi
Even before I reached the last line I knew it
could only be Mandela. Let's hope he's spared
for a few more years, still.

A fitting tribute for a worthy international icon.

I find it odd that this thumping good eulogy has only one comment, yet more than eighty reads.
Well, I was certainly impressed.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
