Healthy to Obsession

Contributed by chlois on Saturday, 23rd March 2013 @ 09:13:24 PM in AEST
Topic: obsession

Why try so hard to not be me?
Looking in the mirror what do i see?
Too fat, not pretty, such low self-esteem.
I'm not what you think i may seem.
I throw a good smile but cry inside.
The lies i can so easily hide.
Fear of not being what society wants.
Picture perfect image that forever taunts.
Living my life around gaining a pound.
A simple life i have not found.
Deciding what food is good or bad.
Something i eat then regret i had.
Head in the toilet, finger down my throat.
Secrets i hid now revealed in this note.
A minor problem that just progressed.
From a normal diet to becoming obsessed.

chlois,

You've penned a genuine and accessible account of eating disorders and how they come about (externally and from our own psyche). And it held together in the AABB rhyme scheme. well done.

Obsession as it truthfully has become. Wonderfully stated, and, should I dare say, something we all truly do share, sadly too much and secretly too.
Is it (not) almost like a mktg gimmick,
A tragically immoral one too?
This is very honest and highly important to state.
Well said.
Thank you!
Peace!

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
