Hidden promises

The ends of March and still cold Winter brings
its icy touch on days which should be Spring's
that hides the patient harbingers of birth
who wait expectant neath the kindling earth.
Winter's wrath is never preordained,
nor when aroused from slumber, is constrained.
Its frozen breath blows spitefulness and threat,
a clear intent that it's not finished - yet.
But I have seen magnolias pink and red
and catkins-on-the-hazel's golden spread;
and snowdrops in their multitudes arise
to ring their bell-shaped flowerheads at the skies.
And I have heard the mavis and the lark
begin their early birdsong as the spark
to rouse the peerless blackbird's tuneful strain
that will celebrate the close of Winter's reign.

Perfectly gorgeous and gorgeously perfect!
I have missed your work immensely,
as well as our conversations. This piece is
exactly what I have come to expect from
you. Breathtaking and so topical. You make
the hold that winter has on us appear almost
