The Newborn Cattle Woman

Contributed by newbie5464 on Sunday, 10th March 2013 @ 08:16:03 AM in AEST
Topic: StoryPoetry

This cowgirl whoops and hollers,
Shows everyone a good time.
With shiny spurs and buckles,
And boots of every kind.

Her confidence makes others jealous,
And her words can sometimes hurt.
She will hand out her advice and criticism,
But in return would take none.

Her horse could cut a cow,
Then really fast she’d make him run.
How good he was to make her look good,
For most times it was just for show.

One day he didn’t cut the cow,
Then ran and bucked her off.
She needed a lesson taught to her,
And he was her last hope.

She hit the ground real hard,
Puzzled and mad, she roared.
She couldn’t understand,
He’d never done that before.

She figured he needed to know right from wrong,
So she got back on closed minded.
She ran towards cattle, hard to teach him good,
But the steers all burst away and again her horse bucked.

She hit the ground again,
With anger, frustration and confusion.
She thought the cows were too wild,
And her ten year old horse too unbroken.

Every thought crossed her mind,
Except for the truth that was.
Then the dust settled,
And something in her changed.

She saw the cattle standing,
Forgetting their latest fluster.
Her horse stood there staring,
Forgiving and humble.

She saw the error in her ways,
And immediately began to weep.
The animals had showed her she was wrong.
They were the only ones who could.

She still has a long ways to go yet,
But then so do we all.
That day she hit the ground a cowgirl,
Then up came a humble cattle woman, and stood very tall.

I really enjoyed this poem. Where I'm from there's tons of cowboys and cowgirls and this was an interesting take on them actually being humble. Good job and keep up the good work! Thanks for sharing :)
