social mayhem

i need to calm down

lost in a flurry of drinks

friendly banter abound

me, myself, i am floating away

into a conversation

that should never have begun

should never have seen the light of day

ask me a question

expect an outcome

response offered

intrigued, feel dumb

numb, deliberately muffled

cards are shuffled

ace in the hole

lost control

a perpetual conundrum

has turned

my world upside down

my life into the clouds

nothing less

depressing to watch

my mistake to botch

a fancy wrist watch

tells time the same

the wall hangs the clock

a story of what was

what is now

considered

a lost art
