It has been a while since the kid has been around,
He was lost in the world.
Pain and anger had hardened him.
Like an empty brick building,
He was without.
The happiness that should have been there
was overshadowed by despair.
A looming precipice was approaching,
A gaping, yawing chasm.
There was an aimlessness,
A driving nomadic urge.
To be and to not be,
Or rather to exist on terms chosen not given.
A mighty wrestling was had,
God and man, me and Him.
My Philosophy has been refined,
My Epistemology explains my Hermeneutic.
Worldviews have been reshaped,
And I am not the man I once I used to be,
The kid has grown up,
But the man is back.

Did you write this in 1983, am I reading this right? I felt a growth and change as reading this. It caught me up in its telling. Fine work.

And how thankful this reader of your poetry is. You have a way with words.
A very distinct voice. Good job here.
