spreadeagled on my back,
the diamond stars
dust the black:
just when I think they’ll show the way,
the sun brings on the day.
stealing kisses and sipping wine
why can’t it always be so fine:
just when I think you’re here to stay,
chance takes it all away.
the winds keep screaming
and the rain falls hard,
the heat and drought
show no regard:
just when I think I can make it pay,
the weather strips it all away.
dustbowl depression
and high water blues,
I don’t want to walk
in these shoes:
just when I think I’ve won the day,
the night comes and takes it away
it all gets taken away.

The true lament of the reality of life. Yet within the pain of destruction comes the tiny ray of possibilities. I liked the imagery and the path your words took the reader on. Very nice write. Thank you for sharing, P |

Hi Spike,
Temporary beings living temporary lives.
Why is nothing forever - except the promised
eternity that, apparently, you could die for?
Nice piece, as always.
