Four walls surround this little box
The sky is hidden as is the ground
No windows to let in life's sound
No seams or corners in this my world
You can pace from end to end
Never bump into a living thing
There's no music to help one sing
No pictures to enrich a tired mind
Positive a door exists somewhere
I hear the quiet persistent knock
Is there even a key that fits the lock
Fearful I'll never find the way out
This box that holds me tight within
Can't locate a break in the solid frame
No clues invade to help end this game
Is this all that is left in life for me
Sit in the middle, arms hugging knees
Crying out to the silence that closes in
Please, there has to be a way to begin
Knocking down these claustrophobic walls
Wait, is that a sliver of light peeking in
Could it be that my words broke through
All I need is to be truly accepted by you
Is this the answer to the freedom of a soul
So much wasted time locked in this box
No one hearing or seeing that I'm here
Find the courage to break through my fear
I've had enough of this stupid little box
