There is a star shining inside of me
Wherever you are she's longing to be free
And when time and tension seem to prevail
I find a way to prove that I will not fail

Oh-oh these mere imitations
Performed for gratification
Only reveal half of what you should see
These mere imitations conflict with this generation
Should we just let it be

Emulation I'm skilled at when I sing
To Norah Jones, Pat Benatar, Carole King
Yet in the light everything's not what it seems
Proving my worth is a lifelong dream

If you really see me through
Why do I strive to please you
What else can I do
If this talent does not fully bloom
Have you truly seen me through
Am I obligated to please you
