Our love, eternal, blossoms as a rose,
Expanding by the rays which sun doth feed.
It weathers storm and harshest winters' snows,
And comforts deepest wound or barest need.
Our love, forgiving, wipes away the past,
And washes fresh the stains of bitter thought.
It cleanses animosity held fast;
It disappears the tears shed all for naught.
Our love, inspired, breaks the common mold,
By never letter ember turn to ash.
It's shouted from the rooftops, true and bold,
Like cannon's echoed boom or thunder's crash.
But if, perhaps, connection slips thy mind,
I hope that comfort in these words you'll find.

This sonnet takes me, truly, by surprise;
Does some unknown device deceive my eyes?
Or has a smith, of rhyme and rhythm wise
Descended, bearing true poetic prize?
I bow to you, my friend, extending hand,
Though I am old, your ways I understand.
Believe me, when I say that I'd not planned,
To have a chance to whisper
"That was grand."
I uh. I blame you. |
