someone murdered her beauty:
and not knowing or caring,
drove on under the jaundiced halogen night.
and as she lay dying,
her life in crimson pooling
slowly in the dirty street,
people across the road,
around the country
and all over the world
ate, drank, slept, loved
fought, conversed
watched tv, or sweated at their labours,
sometimes bored and indifferent
or centred and entranced;
made babies, birthed great songs
and works of art
laughed and cried,
dreamed, and also died
and that’s how I know, that
no matter how hard and
cold the gutter feels,
how spontaneous and unfair
the fickle fates that befall us,
we are never, quite alone.

Hi Spike,
Welcome back, mate!
Often we cocoon ourselves in our own
pursuits, seldom contemplating the
misfortunes and misdemeanours being
played out across our own patch, and indeed
across the world. It's not that we don't care,
it's just that we're human. Oh for that magic
gene that can be injected into all of us,
making us super-human with the ability to
foresee and prevent. Until then ..........
A fine piece, offering much to ponder, and
delivered in your own inimitable style.
Tommy
