Clyde the Cat

Topic: psychoticpoems

Clyde was not a happy cat
In fact it is safe to say he was severely depressed
All day he would rest on his orange rug
Filled with a sadness that could not be solved with a hug

You see, back in the day
When Clyde was a kitten
He watched a ladybird documentary
and he had written

'Why oh why was I born a cat?
I am so very bored of catching rats
Why can I not be a ladybird?
I hate my body, it is simply absurd

This red fur and this pink nose
These wiry whiskers and these clawed toes
This is not who I was meant to be
I should have ladybird wings
So I can fly free'

One October morning Clyde lounged on his rug
and along strolled a particularly handsome ladybug
Clyde lifted his head in an apathetic trance
Sniffed his nose and stole a glance

'Excuse me Mr Bug, how do you do?
All i've ever wanted is to be like you
What is it like to be able to fly?
To have spots on your back,,,'
Clyde started to cry

'I really am so sick of being me
I was most definitely born in the wrong body'

The ladybird listened
and with an arrogant smirk
Told Clyde his life could have been worse

'Self pity is not attractive Mr Cat
If I were a cat i'd be happy with that
The best advice I can give is for you to accept'
And with that the ladybird patted Clyde's head

Clyde was never an angry chap
After all he spent most of time in a nap
But the little creature's word's had struck a chord deep inside
Clyde was so angry he continued to cry

'Mr Ladybird you cleary have no idea
How awful it is to wish you were not here
I am trapped inside this cat shaped prison
All I want is for you to listen'

The ladybird laughed and gave Clyde a grin
'Mr Cat you should learn to take things on the chin
There is no need to become emotional, can't you see
You're a cute ginger feline
That is all you will ever be'

With that Clyde stopped and licked up his tears
All of his dreams from his kitten years
Had been quashed by the words of an arrogant bug
He reached out his paw and gave the bug a shove

'There is no need to be so callous and cruel
That is not what I need
No, not at all'

The ladybird laughed
The sound rang through Clydes head
He brought down his paw and squashed the bug dead

Clyde still lays on his rug and wishes to be
A red, spotty creature with wings to fly free
