Early Morning Coffee

Two in the morning
Papers strewn around
A well of information,
Incomprehensible and scribbled,
Foreign and muddled,
Swallowing me whole
An early morning coffee
Late night cigarette
To keep my bleary eyes
Open
Eyelids parted with
Nicotine
Caffeine
Begging the question “why?”
And gravity pulling
Ever
Closer to sleep.

I like this. The vision created hit a note with me. I don't study or work nights, but I don't sleep either. I write. It gave me a smile because it the truth of home. Very nice write. Like the flow and imagery. Thank you for sharing, P |

'And gravity pulling me ever closer to sleep"
made me think of just before succumbing to anesthesia…feeling like someone was pushing me down through the table…
That something so invisible could be so heavy!
Thank you for the visual imagery of your work!
I could read this a hundred times and it would always have something to say to me!
