England is, wishing you were nineteen and reckless
when Saturday evenings are warm and breathless
England is, gloomy mornings and solid breakfasts
England is, the pandemonium of snow
the runaway teen with knowhere to go,
England is, the union jack and god save the queen
England is, the sex pistols and iconoclastic dreams
England is, the awkward smiles in lifts
the smash of china and drunken tiffs
the swift half and a bag of crisps
England is, the hypocrisy of working class conservatives
England is, the complete and utter lack of alternatives
England is,
waiting for the bus
and being told to shush
it's the loose change on your kitchen table
and the able-bodied parking in disabled
England is, listening to other peoples conversations
England is, cigarettes rising above the rate of inflation
England is, guilty men buying flowers
England is, whats mine is mine whats yours is ours
England is, the typically wet bank holiday
England is, losing 3-1 to Plymouth Argyle away
England is, the smell of brut in old-fashioned living rooms
and the sound of lawnmowers on a Sunday afternoon
England is, holidays in north Wales full of sun-burnt scousers
and going to the Cheltenham Festival in your Dad's cordouroy trousers
England is, the desolate landscape of dirty canals and battered factories
and the draw you use for scraps of wood, porn, cables and batteries
England is,
traffic jams and petulance
and old ladies benevolence
It's skin heads and xenophobia
its peak times and claustrophobia
Its evil children sreaming in supermarkets
and old school photos with your hair brushed and parted
England is, the old man and his dog
and the headlights piercing the winter fog
It's the shirtless men smoking out of windows
It's the rain lashed cobbles and the street-lamps glow
England is, brandy at funerals and champagne at weddings
and driving towards the sunset calmly unsure where you heading
England is,
the hand kindly keeping the door open.

Hi,
Have you ever thought about seeking a position
with the English Tourist Board?
Loved this, and as the old saying goes .........
''Many a true word spoken in jest!''
and not too dissimilar to my land of the Jocks.
