The Day the Sun Died

Grief
|
It struck me
As the sun set.
The eldest man I knew
Paid his way to the high city;
A world anew.
The darkness
Overwhelmed my being.
The sky shifted
From baby blue to gloomy.
His spirit has been lifted.
It was a dim night.
I watched as my father
Cried out in agony.
I once heard him yell
"Lord, why not take me?!"
I shall not forget
The day the sun died.
My vision of a wise man;
My smiling
Father of grand.
We have come to inner peace.
The darkest night is just before dawn;
Do not sit in grief and sorrow.
Have no fear,
Because the sun will rise tomorrow.
