Life Story

Topic: EmotionalPoetry

I sat down to write you a letter
Hoping it would make everything better
All I accomplished was to sit and cry
Yet, I wrote, don't know why

For parents, there are no written rules
No training, no guidance, no schools
Most tackle the task with good intention
Nature meant well with this parent invention

I was so excited when we created you
My head filled quickly with what to do
Envisioning what would be in your future
Writing your story as if I was the author

Seems I went too far in the story line
Nothing hoped for turned out so fine
Sometimes parents raise too high life's bar
Expect too much, carry it too far

Children shouldn't have to live up to dreams
Life and fate have their own set of schemes
Our parents, their parents, all had a plan
So it has been since the beginning of man

As parents, we forgot the one basic truth
You are an individual, human, our youth
Our job is to pass on dreams, hope, ideals
Your job is to be what your future reveals

These words I write help me understand
The answer flows quietly from my hand
It's very simple; my heart it disarms
Life is the child you cradle in your arms

Being a parent, I can relate to this well and you are oh so right.

Great, as usual!.

Thanks,

Tim

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
