"I'm a Fake"
No one has seen this coming
There's no signs to read into
I fasten on my theater mask
And play the part they've come to know
Behind the mask and all the games
Two and half decades worth of pain
I never cry when I fall apart
I ran out of tears so long ago
Nothing left to clean my eyes
and give me a clearer view
Sherpardless, a wandering sheep
There is no god for me to believe
I'll take this silence to the grave
No use in pretending to be brave
I'll feign a laugh for old time's sake
Yeah, like my mask, I am a fake
Dangling on the edge up high
Now, I'm diving thru the darkened sky

I really like this and don't know exactly why. Some people are flakes they think, or they hide, never capable of expressing themselves. Then, there is your honesty that draws me into what you write, possibly about how you think, about yourself. Like you've acted before, and haven't we all, as we all play our own individual part, but there's something more to what you share here. As though you know how to be bold, or perhaps, easily, maybe, give that impression to others. There's something very creative in this. Comedians are like this, good ones at least. Yeah, I guess a craft you practice, you move on, only as good as the last one done. Then, there's the rest of it, ones totality in life. But maybe you don't know, people, at least someone, likes you more, for something, that isn't fake.
Thanks for this insightful piece that is intrinsically well said and speaks of real truth --- sometimes the hardest thing to impart. |
