Touchstone

Love moved in from beyond all possibilities
Strange love that knew no form, no rules
He woke up to her songs every morning
A warrior princess, and a snow wolf

She flew over him, his green eyes fevered
He knew her touch from the violets she strew
He drank from the dew pools she led him to
Running beside her, his silver mane glowing

Their lives were charmed, free like the birds
He brought her morsels of joy she yearned for
Their days together rang in folklore from the angels
But then the earth tripped, laden with burdens

One day the world snared her in a battle
A battle fought mute, all her weapons stolen
She was left exposed to die in disgrace
As the silver wolf held captive, howled his agony

Alone again in his solitude, the snow wolf ran
His lost green eyes, smoldering fire pools in void
He was back every morning to where the Irises grew
Where he lay her at rest, their goodbyes never made

He brought her stories, morsels of his life
Tending to the flowers, guarding her quiet grave
Till that last hour, until his breathe gave away too
A snow wolf dead, among Irises and forgotten folklore…
