I am missing you tonight,
But you know that,
And this, among other things,
I know can not be helped,
And so I stay up again
Longing for your arms to be wrapped
So lovingly around me,
Almost as if I can will you to be there,
And be held closely by my side.
When will this agony be over?
I know that you have to go and find yourself,
And I know that you are doing this
For both of us, for our futures,
And it's something that you feel you need to do,
But the excuses that I give myself in the morning,
And that sound fine to my ears in the daylight
Do not make the lonliness fade away
When the clock is stricking midnight.
I'm lonely, waiting up,
Almost willing the phone to ring,
Even though I know that you can' t call.
Trying to decide if I'll be able to sleep,
Or if it's worth trying to go to bed at all.
Sleeping brings the dreams of you though
An almost perfect torture,
Giving me what I long for when I'm awake,
Only for it to be gone in the morning.
How much longer must I wait?
I know the time, I know the days,
I even have the hours slowly ticking away,
But it doesn't stop me from missing you.
My only consolation is that I know
That you are out there, somewhere,
Missing me too,
And that, although it's only a little something,
Makes all the difference in the world.
So goodnight, sweetheart,
I'll dream of you tonight,
And in the morning I'll tell myself
It's only for a little while.
