My lover’s left me. I will go
Where love is purchased for a song,
Upon that dim and far plateau,
Where nymphs awaken with the dawn.
They greet me with that dream-like smile,
They are immortal, passing fair,
Like pretty girls with well honed guile,
They come not back who touch their hair!
I stroked their hair for hours and
I sleep with them down in the brake,
Here in this dry and shore side sand,
That limns this black and haunted lake.
My love, she’s vanished. I will go
Where love is purchased for a song,
Upon that dim and far plateau,
Where nymphs awaken with the dawn.
