Seventeen stories above the city streets,
High above where the concrete and grass meet.
People walking below without a clue,
Of what it feels like to be close to you.
Head against the window staring down,
If I were to scream they'd hear no sound.
Oblivious to the ideas you struggle with,
In this penthouse above main and fifth.
Seventeen stories up I watch the people below,
While the lump in my throat continues to grow.
Wanting so bad just to hear your voice,
Unfortunately, in this I have no choice.
It seems I'm on the ledge, although I'm not,
Wandering if in your heart I've already been forgot.
In this lavish room I wish you were here,
Listening to voice-mails pretending you're near.
Tonight I thought I'd drink you off my mind,
I'd like to meet who ever said love was blind.
Because I see you ever place that I go,
And I miss you more than you'll ever know.
I don't know if we were meant to be together,
Or that what we are would last forever.
Actually I don't know how you feel about me,
Maybe I'm just blinded and can not see.
It could be the way that my words read,
You're afraid that I'm already in too deep.
When all I really want is one day at a time,
Draw it, and I will never cross that line.
I am an honest man, don't lie or cheat,
You are the only woman I want to keep.
Compassion, love, and space when you need,
To be everything that you need me to be.
I understand the need to do it on your own,
But I also know the feeling of an empty home.
Let me offer you both space and a companion,
Space when you need it without feeling abandoned.
Why don't we see where all this leads,
Just give it a chance, hear my plea.
I'm willing to live one day to another,
Because you're the one I want above all others.
