False Friends

False Friends!

At the height of our power and at the peak of our success,
We are worshipped in some form, and almost declared a god.
We have people bowing down before us, hugging us, fainting at the sight of our shadow, crying in awe of us, and begging us to cleanse them so they could be like you and I.
But when our individual, conceited, self-centered world comes crashing down and the stage lights dim, and the curtain closes on us, where do our followers go?

For every false praise listened to, another soul gets drawn into the lies of people who say they love them, yet turn their backs on them at the sight of an uprising.
Liars like these just want your riches and glory,
They don’t want the pain and suffering that comes with it! Nor do they want to climb the rocks you stumbled on just to get there.
If you continue to listen to their false aspirations for you and dreams they said they’ll help you achieve, you will slowly go into a pit that is very hard to come out of!

They will follow you as long as you have a large house and you’re not homeless!
As long as you stay in power and not get overthrown!
They will leave you in the dumpster and dump you like the trash they said you were!
They will go after someone more rich, more handsome, more prettier than they said you were!

With all the money in the world and all the world’s jewels in our possession,
With all the finest wines and gourmet foods the world has to offer,
When the walls of this great city come tumbling down,
We are once again left alone!

It is better to be poor and have Jesus as your best friend,
Then to be a rich, self-indulgent, heart-hardened bastard and lose your soul!!!!

I've been here before
Not on such grand a scale
but have had those so called friends, just abanon me unjustly.
It's a lonely feeling.
Your statement about faith is all too true, and it's the real reason we are here.
Well written.

you know when a stranger steps up to really help you out and they just smile when you say how grateful you really are - The Good Samaritan is one of my favorite parables and you are absolutely right on/ it's about what's really important/ not about praising material things.

Thanks - very good write!

Peace!
