my army

Contributed by Cancer on Sunday, 11th May 2003 @ 11:05:00 AM in AEST
Topic: DarkPoetry

everything's falling apart
feels like the god's have
left me here to die

i am completely breaking down
and all my "friends" have turned
their backs on me

no shoulder for me to lean on
no helping hand extending
through the pain

i feel betrayed, i feel so lost
feel like i'm going to freeze
out in this rain

all is lost, yet all is none
how can i lose anymore
when there was Nothing here before

told you so much, it helps to hide
the truth, the pain, the demons
feeding and breeding inside

every knife wound in my back
has scarred and hardened
turning my skin to stone

one day, i'll be all you have left
you'll plead for help, but i'll turn
and leave you to die alone

every spell gabbled against me
returns threefold
you decay, as i laugh

Nothing matters anymore
the pills kick in
and this world's disguise falls away

gazing long, into the abyss
my colorless reflection stares back
i am the monster, the mirror is the soul i lost

at all costs, vengance is extracted
all old wrongs are now corrected
my mask of ashes hides my endless contempt

salvation whored out to the weak and needy
exiled hands help lynch the greedy
my hate sends armies, marching out to war

lepers, outcasts, flock to me
i will not shun you, follow me
i will embrace you, come burn with me
i will protect you, worhsip me
make me your god, i'll set you free

at the world, i spit this curse:
i damn you all, for your arrogance
for your apathy, for your ignorance
every soul you would not receive
is now a slave, in league with me
our only goal, is to see you pay
for the sins you lived each day
your bigotry, your hate, your greed
was the soil in which i grew these weeds
now they are strong, ready to judge and accuse
and the scary thing is, they have Nothing to lose
you ignored and exiled them
and for all your talk of "brotherly love"
you spat on them, your children laughed at them
any plea for help was refused
and now you will see, you will feel their pain
you will know, first-hand, what it means to lose
everything you ever took for granted
and everything you ever held dear
we are here to strip it all away
and send you off to the god you hold so dear

now they are ready, their guns are in hand
and now, at long last, you will see
the consequences, the end result
of stripping desperate people of their dignity

I must have read it just right, because the endings flowed well together for me. I am guessing that this poem is for the hypocritical Christians who cannot or will not be the example that Jesus was. I have been in that place, but I have learned that not all people are like that, and some will lend a helping hand no matter what.
The emotions come rolling off of this poem, and the imagery is very vivid. It's a very, very powerful write. You did a wonderful job with making everything come alive for the reader.

you classified this as dark poetry... this is just depressive angst, theres a difference. A little too long but ok.
