Thinking Of My Dad

Topic: EmotionalPoetry

Dear daddy
today I was thinking of you
I was listening to a song
making me think about everything I do

I somehow realize
you tried to love me the best that you could
Down deep inside of you
to forgive, you knew I would

Sometimes it is lonely in this world without you
but other times I feel as if you’re here
It is quite often
I feel as if you’re by my side and I shed a tear

I was so hurt
by a feeling of separation between son and dad
Every day of my life
I think back on the times that we had

I really wish we had done more things together
as a loving son and dad should do
It really would have given me
so many fond and loving memories of you

I am older now
wondering what I did to make you act the way you did
Constantly asking myself
why you would not just let me be a normal kid

You have been gone now for six years
reflection of my past running through my head
I would love to forgive you in person
unfortunately I can’t because you are dead

Because of this
I think of you and feel as if you’re looking over my shoulder
I feel as if it’s your spirit
and feel the room get colder

Daddy if you’re watching over me
please listen to the words I speak
I am saying I forgive you
hoping to give you energy because your spirit may be weak

Daddy I love you
I always have, even if it didn’t show
Daddy I really miss you
I wish you never had to go

I now have children of my very own
someday I will have to leave them too
When that time comes
daddy I will be there again by your side with you

Until that time comes
allow me to show my children love from my heart
So we can share many loving moments
creating many fond memories before this world too, I part

Last but least
daddy I will always love you so
Thank you for staying by my side
I forgive you, so to heaven your spirit may now go.

Bitter sweet, beautiful in its sadness.
My brother was killed in a jet ski accident last month.....Your poem is so touching and heartfelt....... I will say something a speaker at my brothers funeral said," he said in times of death we feel and think many things, but do not let guilt dampen the memories, there isnt a spot for guilt. we are human...... anyway.. I know he is near you and he has heard you.... rest easy in knowing that.... I have had some troubles of my own with it.... we always wish things would have been a bit different..... hold on to those priceless moments where there were smiles..... hold the smiles even if at times they are mixed with your tears.....

Hugs
Michelle
