As she stepped off the bus,
The tears started to flow.
All day at school,
She’d taken blow after blow.
The hateful words,
Came one after another.
They never stopped to think,
Do these words really describe her?
She had been pushed and shoved,
She had been called a whore.
She had taken the verbal abuse,
Sitting silently, shamefully, stiff as a board.
They were having fun,
Trying to make the girl cry.
They tried and they tried,
But it just wouldn’t fly.
The girl was strong,
She remembered what her mom told her.
‘Their words and names might be wrong,
They may be hurtful and cruel,
But you have to stay firm,
And remember my rule.
Hold your head high,
Don’t let them see,
The pain that’s inside you,
And they will soon be,
Bored with their game,
They will find a new victim,
And do to him or her the same.’
How wrong mom had been!
They didn’t get tired!
They more she stayed strong,
The faster words were fired!
One after one,
Hitting her right in the heart!
Then the bell rang.
She had not fallen apart.
As she gathered her books,
She started to think.
She couldn’t take another day of these looks,
Hateful remarks and abuse!
When she got home it would have to end.
On the way to her house,
The whole bus ride, she planned.
How she would do it.
What the good-bye note would say.
She walked through the door,
Told her mom about her “wonderful” day,
Then went to her room,
And wrote note after note.
There was one to mom and dad,
One to Tasha and Chris,
And Tommy and Carrie
But most important, above all,
One to her tormenters.
It started something like this:
Dear Peers,
As she stepped off the bus,
The tears started to flow.
