Time's Mirror

Contributed by dvtpdw on Saturday, 15th September 2012 @ 07:37:05 PM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

Look at the face reflected in the mirror
See the wrinkles, the sagging skin
Age and days are nature's deceiver
I look, wonder, when did this begin?

Am I scared because I'm getting older?
Am I sad because my winter has arrived?
Am I worried I'll never grow bolder?
Is nature's disillusionment contrived?

Sitting here as I brush my graying hair
Watch the brown spots crossing my hand
Can't ignore the inner voice yelling not fair
Don't want to accept this nature's brand

Contradiction exists within my mind's eye
The image I see in its mirror so different
Picture the young woman not afraid to try
Unexplored roads; lots of rules left unbent

Does old age mean the end of the dare?
Does it mean there's nothing to discover?
Am I doomed for the fabled rocking chair?
No way, I'm simply not ready to roll over

Old age is nothing more than another time
I've passed through all the previous changes
There's still valleys, mountains left to climb
Guess what time, watch me from the fringes

I hear the voice of not only surviving but living! The rebellion against the tides of life which I see every day in the eyes that burn brightly that are still full of life in people who have always fire in their belly to live under whatever circumstances life throws at them.In fact the tougher life has been the more the flame burns brightly from the strength of spirit inside. Great poem, inspiring and uplifting.

A fine piece on the trials and the art of ageing.
It's not the end though, in many ways it's
another beginning.

Dare to dare! You're ready for it - you've
arrived!

Quran 36:68
And he whom We grant long life, We reverse him in creation (weakness after strength). Will they not then understand?
