Years
He had five years
And already had found his words
Had talked with the walrus
And greeted the carpenter.
With Jim and Long John
He had sailed into tomorrow;
When frost came into view
He realized he had found his wall
And poetry was all
He had eight years
And had begun to sit in seats
And daydream the leaves
School an overgrown garden
Full of weeds and branches bending
He had sixteen years
In the high graded stillness silent
In the noise of others
He could sense the wrongs
Around his difference,
Saw no one in his eyes
Let no one in his heart
And remained alone within his dreams
He had nineteen years
And met beauty and fell
No longer full but empty
And began the words that poured
from his soulful eyes
