In 2009 I am thinking to myself at a bar
should go back to school
Depressed feeling like
I am a fool
Justifying that alcohol is my only tool
then I just start drinking
as much to fill a pool
Not knowing how much would suffice
I went from feeling nice
To just rolling the dice
2 am came and the urge
to drive did entice
Of this I did not think twice
Driving like the 3rd of 3 blind mice
It was a blur then I heard a pop
It was a flat tire
Then I saw lights flashing coming towards me
The color of ocean and fire
As I came to a man emerged
it was one that Allentown’s finest did hire
he said have you been drinking tonight
I had a chance to be liar
But I did what most would admire
I now realized I was in
a situation that was dire
Saying “my alcohol status
I must retire”
“My mind frame of
nights out I must rewire”
A couple of days passed
And I could not believe my eyes
Reading a document with the
3 letters D . U.I
I kept reading with
a very long sigh
A first offense there is
something you could try
Join the A.R.D program to get by
There are many things
it did mention
60 days of your license suspended
But it is your decision
And if you agree
you won’t go to prison
I had to choose
but there was no election
As the program was completed
My college fund was depleted
Cannot drive my car
Cannot go to school it’s all related
it is a setting
that I created
A position that
I generated
As my status on the program is positive
My educational currency is negative
But the fact it is almost over is my sedative
It’s all over finally
I got my license back
Its been since
my last coke and jack
But there is something
I still lack
The amount which was
the school stack
3 years later
I am a back on track
In January 2012
I picked up the slack
Returned to school for the knowledge to hack
On spring break I celebrated but
I did not follow the pack
I had fun with them but no jack
Today I am happy
this I must admit
Driving by a sign that says
You can’t afford it
A blessing in disguise
Because now I know where I sit
Not an alcoholic a criminal or a loser
But someone that just fine will fit
I do not regret what
Happened that night
one bit
Because To connect the dots you
Can’t look forward
You must do the opposite
