Small Talk

Contributed by anoreo on Sunday, 8th July 2012 @ 02:12:14 AM in AEST
Topic: HumorPoetry

I sat in my seat, comfortably awaiting the company that necessarily comes with a full flight,
And as she came, a fair French maiden of petite stature and calm quiet demeanor, I began to think:
“Who will talk first and of what will we speak, or is she the type who’d much rather sleep?”
To my dismay, she was of neither mind, choosing to of my conversation decline in favor of pulp fiction,
Saying, “I’m not interested in small talk.”
So I said: “How about engaging with me in dialectic of magnanimous measure to discuss matters of
Profundity yet unexplained since the days before Socrates stomached the severe stock of hemlock eons ago?
We can discuss the nature of virtue, whether it be taught or learned, of being, and non-being,
And if knowing what ‘is’ is to be known before we can discuss what ‘is not’.”
Eyeing me keenly she asked, “Who are you?”
To which I replied, “As I understand, you aren’t interested in small talk.”

Funny, the Title reminded me of something Steve Martin the Comedian would say.
Small talk, philosophy, that would represent a tiny people, possibly dwarf-like. But then, they got their own reality shows, and, it was just a joke, small-like in philosophical circles has this little understood common logic that makes philosophy seem so dull and drab.
Like say, smoking weed, not to get high, but to get small. Have you ever gotten small before, you know, real small?
You should have asked that hot French Girl that. Perhaps it would have blown her mind. Then, you might have mentioned the universally known comic strip zen, Ziggy.

Maybe next time...

Peace!

Wow great write, had a nice fluidity to it and the ending was rounded out with some hilarity. I found it really enjoyable to read!

Chuckling away here. Very well done, with a touch of the Pythonesque about it.
