Nothing Much

Contributed by TCK on Monday, 2nd July 2012 @ 06:30:44 PM in AEST
Topic: abstract

Pumping out words like a beating-heart-machine-
Time is short if you know what I mean-
A window is open and the words flood in-
But there's no telling when they'll be gone again.

Cause sometimes to live you've gotta lay your life down-
Sometimes to swim you have to first learn to drown-
To wake up the world you've got to give up your dream-
Because often a whisper is louder than a scream.

And I've wasted time saying I'll set the world on fire-
And I've often wondered why I never felt inspired-
But changing this world starts with changing my own square-
Just like climbing up a tower starts with taking that first stair.

So now I'm gonna do whatever it is You need-
Direct me God, cut me if I need to bleed-
I won't write another word if it's not in Your design-
And if it's Your command I won't pen another line.

I've longed for adventure; but maybe that's not what You want-
So put me where You need me Dad, I'm a waiting bow: taunt-
But I can slacken up if that's what's written in Your plan-
And I can be silent if silence says that I'm Your man.

Pumping out words like a beating-heart-machine-
But I can shut them off if that's what service really means-
I can burn away this book and never take back up this pen-
Burn my life's bridges and never build them up again.

There's a point to all this; I'm just trying to spit it out-
As I said before, my whisper is stronger than my shout-
My head feels on fire as I pump these words to page-
But to work the spell required takes a greater kind of mage.

Do you get me? Sometimes greatness is just doing what you must.
Even if what needs doing is really nothing much.
And sometimes shining is just reflecting other's light-
And sometimes getting punched is the way you win the fight.

Sometimes you need to stand-
But another time to sit.
For love I may hold your hand-
Or maybe take your hit.

A real hero might not go in both guns blazing-
And sometimes the heroic task might not always seem amazing-
But to change the world you really just do what God says you must-
Even if it often may just seem like nothing much.

In fact, it may seem like nothing as you do your own small part-
But we're the flowing blood pumped from God's own beating heart-
So to change the world? Sure, I might have to give up on my dream-
But I'll do it if by my silence the world hears me scream.

Cause sometimes God's winner is the fighter who bleeds.
And sometimes "nothing much" is exactly what he needs.
